Congratulations to the NJDEC member for winning the President’s “E” Award for export excellence/interview On Thursday October 29, 2020, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, announced the names of the American companies that were honored this year as recipients of the President’s “E” Awards.

This award was created in 1961 by Executive Order of the President and is the highest recognition a U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of this country’s exports.  Given the prestige of the award, it is very exciting that a New Jersey business, Intelligent Security Systems, is one of the elite 28 corporations that was cited for having demonstrated a sustained increase in export sales over a four-year period.

Headquartered in Woodbridge, NJ, Intelligent Security Systems (ISS), is a leading designer of security surveillance and control systems for networked digital video and audio recording, video image pattern processing and digital data transmission.

The company was founded almost 20 years ago by Roman Jarkoi who proudly bears the title Chief Innovation Officer. The company quickly became known for its smart approach to security challenges, offering systems that can be integrated with access control systems, fire and life safety, and  are compatible with virtually any third-party security equipment.  Now with offices around the world, ISS has become a renowned leader in video analytics and management software, providing a complete line of digital security and video solutions that are at the forefront of on-demand security, enabling centralized control and control of an entire enterprise security network.

But being recognized as smart and creative isn’t the whole story.

When Aluisio Figueredo, CEO, Founder, Roman Jarkoi, Chief Innovation Officer, and Richard Burns, Chairman, first sat down together, collectively pooling their years of experience and unique global perspectives, they realized that they were on the cusp of dominating the industry. The almost magical chemistry that sparked between them was enough to ignite their passion for producing best in class products and services. Over the years they had each acquired the necessary knowledge, skills, and proficiencies, along with some well-earned battle scars - that are necessary to get the job done. They were confident that they were well-prepared for taking the lead on sophisticated, large scale security projects world-wide.

The tone starts at the top in every great organization.

At ISS, the leadership team – with its  cultural backgrounds that include Brazil, Britain and Russia – always understood from the beginning that success would depend on their ability to hire the best people, to promote from within, and to build a solid team that could work together effectively and respectfully, whether across the street or around the world.

They grew that formidable bench strength by emphasizing the importance of exchanging information efficiently, concentrating on product development, and remaining agile while reacting quickly to clients’ changing needs.

Listening is what they do really well at ISS.

These three visionaries have honed their skills and competencies, but they have gone beyond their technical expertise by combining a laser-like focus on clients’ demands with an innovative approach to using unique imaging algorithms for security solutions.  As a result of this ‘one-stop-shop’ platform, they have a critical advantage which enables them to compete successfully against many of the largest multinational companies in their sector.  The ISS experience offers a level of intelligence and analytics that was previously only available for government and military applications but today is applicable and accessible for all size corporations. As such they can proudly point to a wide range of complicated engagements from the Mexico City Safety Project to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce to the Russian Railway System to the Port of Montreal and more.

Being innovative is a way of life at ISS.

Launched on the premise of creativity and innovation, at ISS, they never stop evolving. It is in their DNA. And so, when the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, they envisioned how security would play and essential role. As Aluisio Figueiredo, CEO said, “It is now equally important to know when people are not wearing masks” To immediately address this, “there is the ISS’ new SecurOS Face Mask Detection solution, which automatically identifies and alerts administrators when an individual is not wearing a face mask and attempts to enter a facility where a face mask is required.”

This is not a script for a science fiction movie!

At Intelligent Security Services, their powerful array of digital video surveillance solutions seem to come straight out of a Hollywood production, but the reality is that ISS is simply committed to remaining consistently at the forefront of all security issues.

How the U. S. Commercial Services Department supports NJ exporters

ISS began working with the U.S. Commercial Service’s Central-Southern New Jersey office approximately two years ago.  Working closely with Acting Director, Janice Barlow, the company has been able to engage with multiple inquiries with the U.S. Commercial Service offices globally, to assist with their international business development.   This dynamic business relationship continues and will aim to lend itself to ISS’s international footprint.

Congratulations to everyone at ISS on receiving the 2020 President’s “E” Award!
